HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania House today passed a responsible and prudent budget proposal, turning away large-scale tax increases endorsed by the governor and state Senate.

Following its passage by a 115-86 vote margin, Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Allegheny/Washington) issued the following statement:

“Today’s budget vote represents a victory for the people and a rejection of Gov. Tom Wolf’s ‘war on taxpayers.’ Time and time again, the governor has sought to massively increase state spending, reaching deep into the pockets of hard-working Pennsylvanians to fund his wealth redistribution schemes. Once more, we’ve stopped him.

“We passed a good, solid budget that doesn’t additionally burden everyday taxpayers while significantly increasing funding for education and Pennsylvanians with special needs. This budget represents the best way forward out of the current budget impasse. I call upon the Senate to pass it and the governor to sign it.

“If the governor chooses to veto for a third time critical funding for K-12 education and social service organizations serving our state’s citizens in need, shame on him. It’s time for him to stop playing games with our state’s children and vulnerable adults and to get the job done.”
