HARRISBURG – State Rep. Will Tallman (R-Adams/Cumberland) today joined his colleagues on the House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee in advancing a package of bills designed to maintain senior citizens’ eligibility in PACE and PACENET, Pennsylvania's prescription assistance programs for older adults. All three bills may now be taken up by the full House.
“Nearly 300,000 older Pennsylvanians depend on these programs for low-cost medications,” Tallman said. “The bills we moved today would allow a significant number of those individuals to maintain their eligibility without interruption caused by an adjustment in their income.”
The bills, which each passed unanimously, do the following:
•
House Bill 190 - Excludes interest on savings bonds from the definition of income for PACE and PACENET eligibility.
•
House Bill 493 - Excludes state veterans benefits from the definition of income for PACE and PACENET.
•
House Bill 777 - Expanding the moratorium on the Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for anyone currently enrolled in PACE and PACENET.
“More than 16,000 PACE and PACENET cardholders stand to lose their eligibility status as a result of last year’s COLA,” added Tallman. “I know of about 60 people in the 193rd District alone who are hoping we can get House Bill 777 enacted so they can continue to participate in PACE and PACENET.”
Questions about these bills or any legislative issue should be directed to Tallman’s district office at (717) 259-7805 or 1-877-480-9525.
