HARRISBURG - Legislation authored by state Rep. Sheryl Delozier (R-Cumberland) that would encourage competitive bidding for public works contracts has passed the House.
“
House Bill 1281 encourages fiscal responsibility by promoting a more open and transparent bidding process, which can also result in dollars saved for taxpayers,” said Delozier. “I’m hoping my Senate colleagues act quickly on it and send it to Gov. Tom Wolf’s desk for his signature.”
Under existing law, government agencies may enter into public works contracts which include preferential language which favors one brand of product over another. Delozier’s legislation would encourage competition in bidding which could also drive down the cost of doing business.
“Pennsylvania and its political subdivisions benefit from greater interest in public works contracts,” Delozier added. “I believe my proposal not only promotes fiscal responsibility by saving taxpayer dollars, but also enables more vendors to work for the public sector in PA. I have worked with stakeholder groups to address their concerns and come up with the best way to execute this plan.”
Questions about this or any state government issue should be directed to Delozier’s office at 717-761-4665.
