HARRISBURG – Rep. David Maloney (R-Berks) today honored the Odyssey of the Mind team from Daniel Boone Middle School for winning the Odyssey of the Mind World Championship this year.

The team – Taylor Eisenhuth, David Eurillo, Emma Hartman, Zoe Thompson and Rachel Woomer and coached by school parents Fran Thompson and Steph Woomer – won First Place at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals held at Michigan State University in May 20.

Joining Maloney on the House floor, the team was presented the team with a congratulatory House citation and stood at the Speaker’s rostrum as Maloney offered floor remarks to his colleagues highlighting the scale of their intellectual achievement.

“This amazing team from Daniel Boone Middle School standing before us today competed against an elite selection of 63 teams from eight countries to win the world championship for their division,” Maloney said.

This year, the students at Daniel Boone were tasked with creating a video game based on the story from Greek mythology of Pandora’s Box.

The game had to include a prologue of original story of Pandora’s Box, three characters representing the different evils that escaped the box and a power meter of the health of the gaming avatar.

To defeat the game, the player has to find a way to release hope into the world, which the students at Daniel Boone did better than anyone else.

“I ask my colleagues to join me in recognizing the excellence of these Berks County students who carried the torch for Pennsylvania in this world championship,” Maloney said.
