HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives took another step toward addressing and ending lawlessness in Philadelphia when the Judiciary Committee advanced House Resolution 216, its co-sponsor, Rep. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland), announced today.
“Laws to protect businesses and save lives in Philadelphia have been ignored for far too long,” Ecker said. “Today’s action is a step toward finding solutions to protect the residents of Pennsylvania’s largest city and ensuring laws are being enforced.”
House Resolution 216 would create the Select Committee on Restoring Law and Order. The committee, to be compromised of five members, would make recommendations, such as the impeachment of Krasner, and possible policy changes due to local officials refusing to enforce state law in Philadelphia.
The committee would be made up of three Republicans and two Democrats appointed by the speaker of the House. It would have the ability to subpoena testifiers.
“Once formed, the committee will take a harder look into the rising crime rate plaguing the city of Philadelphia and make recommendations to remedy the situation.” Ecker said.
House Resolution 216 will now be considered by the full House.
