HARRISBURG – Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette/Westmoreland) today voted to override portions of Gov. Tom Wolf’s budget veto which left human service organizations without funding. The vote failed along party lines to gain the required two-thirds majority.

Warner issued this statement following Tuesday’s votes:

“Today, members of the House of Representatives had the opportunity to put party politics aside in order to send immediate support to essential state-funded services like rape crisis centers, cancer screening services, domestic violence programs, textbooks for nonpublic schools and nutrition programs for seniors, which were left unfunded by Gov. Wolf’s veto of the entire state budget.

“To my disappointment, political agendas triumphed good government, leaving vulnerable Pennsylvanians as the innocent victims once again. At a time when human service and non-profit organizations are drastically reducing access to programs, furloughing staff and borrowing funds, it is gravely disappointing that elected officials would continue to put politics before the needs of Pennsylvanians.

“The line items brought to a vote today allocated the same or more funding than what Gov. Wolf requested. Yet, the 43,000 people who rely on those services have been left to wait, with no relief in sight.

“It is a sad day when senior citizens, victims of domestic violence and special needs children, who were counting on their elected officials to leave politics at the door and do what was right, continue to be held hostage for political agendas and quests for higher taxes.”
