HARRISBURG – After weighing all the circumstances surrounding the criminal case against Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane, Rep. Kathy Watson (R-Bucks) has signed on to co-sponsor House Resolution 435, which calls for the statewide elected official’s impeachment.

“Impeachment is not a decision to be taken lightly, as this process would seek to remove an elected official from his or her constitutionally defined duties,” she said. “After much thoughtful consideration into the case involving our current attorney general, I feel it is best that Attorney General Kane not continue to serve as our state’s top law enforcement official. Even though she is innocent until proven guilty, I have serious concerns about the direction of the office.

“Based on the charging documents made public last week, it is clear that much of the alleged wrong-doings occurred while Kane was carrying out her duties. That presents an inherent conflict in her responsibilities now. Someone facing criminal charges and simultaneously carrying out the rule of law by leading investigations, filing criminal and civil charges and prosecuting cases has enormous risk.

“As a result, I am hopeful that Attorney General Kane steps down from office so that she can devote her time and energy to her own defense.”
