HARRISBURG – After the state House today in Harrisburg approved a state budget bill, local state Rep. Brad Roae (R-Crawford/Erie), who voted for the bill, issued the following statement:
“The big victory for Pennsylvanians in this budget is that lawmakers didn’t spend all of the taxpayers’ money.
“We are setting aside $5.7 billion that will be there next year when we expect the cost of government to increase as inflation drives prices higher and higher. This budget leaves approximately $3.6 billion in unspent funds in the state budget and also sets aside approximately $2.1 billion in the state’s version of a savings account. That state savings account – or Rainy Day Fund – now will have $5 billion to help Pennsylvania get through a recession or other fiscal emergency.
“I have been fighting to set aside this money since the governor unveiled his budget proposal back in the spring. I’m pleased we are holding the line on spending so Pennsylvania will have money set aside for the future.”
