HARRISBURG – In response to the House of Representatives approving a spending plan for fiscal year 2022-23, Rep. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement:

“The budget we approved is a roadmap to a sound fiscal future here in Pennsylvania all while respecting and protecting taxpayers today and for years to come.

“We acted responsibly, opting to plan for the future by saving money now to save taxpayers from drastic tax hikes further down the road. This budget puts $2.1 billion into the Rainy Day Fund, pays down $2 billion in debt and secures $3.6 billion for future budgets.

“We are witnessing now record inflation, the direct result of the federal government pumping billions of dollars in the economy. Left unchecked, the governor would have doled out even more money, which would have exacerbated higher prices.

“The responsible budget we approved thoroughly funds core government services, such as education. These investments will further prepare us for the future as our next leaders seek top-notch education and begin their journeys in life.”
