Budget Provides One-Time Boost to Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program
Eligible senior citizens and people with disabilities will see enhanced rebates through this year’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate program thanks to a one-time infusion of additional funds in the 2022-23 state budget.
The program benefits Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older. The income limit is $35,000 annually for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters, and half of Social Security income is excluded.
With the one-time boost in funding, the maximum standard rebate is $1,105 for both homeowners and renters, up from the usual $650. People who already received their checks this year will not need to take any further action; the Department of Revenue will automatically send a check for the additional funds.
For those who have not yet applied, the deadline to do so for rebates on rent and property taxes paid in 2021 has been extended to Dec. 31.
Claimants are encouraged to file their rebate applications online by visiting www.mypath.pa.gov. No account is required. Applicants who still wish to file a paper application form may obtain Property Tax/Rent Rebate claim forms (PA-1000) and related information on the Department of Revenue's website at revenue.pa.gov. Celebrating Agriculture at Ag Progress Days
Penn State’s Ag Progress Days, the Commonwealth’s largest outdoor agricultural exposition, will be held from Tuesday, Aug. 9, through Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center, 2710 W. Pine Grove Road in Pennsylvania Furnace.
The event is hosted by Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences and showcases educational programs, current research, and the latest innovations in agricultural equipment and technology. It features more than 400 exhibitors from the United States and Canada.

UC Assistance Available at Area CareerLink Centers
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry is now offering in-person assistance with unemployment compensation (UC) claims at PA CareerLink centers throughout the Commonwealth. Appointments are required.
The services are aimed at assisting individuals who do not have proper technology, equipment, or technical skills; individuals without access to home internet or broadband; and individuals with limited English proficiency.

Changes Coming for Medical Assistance Consumers
The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is changing the plans available for Medical Assistance consumers. The changes are effective Sept. 1. Consumers should have received mail about the changes, which affect 500,000 people.
Medical Assistance consumers are affected if they are enrolled in Aetna Better Health, Highmark Wholecare (formerly Gateway Health Plan) in the northwest, or United Healthcare in the southwest, Lehigh Valley and Harrisburg area. If a consumer does not choose a new plan before Aug. 16, the department will auto-assign one.

Mark Your Calendar: Veterans’ Appreciation Event

On Tuesday, I visited three communities for National Night Out events. National Night Out links first responders with the communities they serve through fun activities. I enjoyed talking with families and our police, fire and EMS personnel in Hummelstown, Derry Township and Lower Swatara Township.
