HARRISBURG – To honor two local Bucks County first responders, bills authored by Rep. Todd Polinchock (R-Bucks) would designate two sections of Easton Road (Route 611) in Warrington Township.

“These memorial stretches of roadway will serve in honoring these heroes and ensuring their legacies and service will not be forgotten among our community,” Polinchock said. “Both men were excellent first responders and selfless leaders.”

Polinchock’s bills, now a part of House Bill 2637, which passed the House and Senate and concurred by the state House today, would designate portions of a Warrington Township roadway in the name of these local heroes.

House Bill 2821, now House Bill 2637, would designate a portion of Easton Road, from the intersection of Upper Barness Road and K Street to the intersection of Oakfield Road, as the Officer Stephen C. Plum Jr. Memorial Highway. This stretch runs in front of the police station, his home base.

Warrington Township police officer and K-9 Murphy’s handler, Plum passed away suddenly early this year. He was a K-9 officer for Warrington Township Police Department and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

House Bill 2822, now House Bill 2637, would also designate a portion of Easton Road, from the intersection of Upper Barness Road and K Street to the intersection of Park Road in Warrington Township,as the William Bell Sr. Memorial Highway.

Bell was a firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty while directing traffic at an accident near Upper Barness Road. In January 1964, it was reported that two vehicles were racing in the southbound lanes and crested the hill just above the accident scene when they reportedly attempted to avoid the crash and struck Fire Police Captain Bell.

This legislation now heads to the governor who is expected to sign it.
