HARRISBURG – Residents of eastern York County have a new voice in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives after Rep. Joe D’Orsie (R-Manchester) was sworn in as the representative of the 47th Legislative District.
“Today was a momentous day for me, my family and friends,” D’Orsie said. “Now I look forward to getting to the work of the people of the 47th Legislative District and ensuring their voices and our ideals are considered in Harrisburg.”
Since being elected to his first term in November, D’Orsie has hit the ground running in Harrisburg and has already circulated a co-sponsorship memo for a bill to combat the rising gas tax in Pennsylvania.
D’Orsie will soon officially introduce legislation to freeze the state’s gas and diesel fuel taxes. The bill would amend Act 89 of 2013 to halt an automatic tax increase, which was initiated because the average gas price in 2022 exceeded $2.99 per gallon. Specifically, the legislation would hold the gas tax rate at 57.6 cents per gallon and the diesel tax rate at 74.1 cents per gallon, preventing both rates from increasing in the future.
D'Orsie has additional legislation on tap, including a proposal to amend the state Constitution to allow state education funding to follow students to the school of their parents’ choosing, such as charter, cyber or religious institutions, rather than funding the districts in which they live. Another bill would end bias response teams, which are stifling free speech, at public institutions of higher education.
“These bills reflect why I ran for office, to translate the concerns I heard on the campaign trail into actionable legislation,” D’Orsie said. “Our work thus far is just the start of my commitment to fight for the taxpayers of my district and for a smaller, more sensible state government.”
Due to redistricting, the 47th Legislative District now includes Conewago, Manchester, East Manchester and Hellam townships; the boroughs of Hallam, Manchester, Mount Wolf and Wrightsville; and a piece of Springettsbury Township.
