HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) today issued the following statement in response to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s $45.8 billion fiscal year 2023-24 budget:
“The budget offered by Josh Shapiro today looks like more of the same proposals that we saw under the Wolf administration – a spending plan that does not match the reality of what Pennsylvanians are facing. We fought hard over the past eight years to build a fund reserve and a healthy Rainy Day Fund at nearly $5 billion. Now Gov. Shapiro wants to blow through both of these in five years.
“Another disappointment is he plans to continue Gov. Wolf’s efforts to have Pennsylvania join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). This will only increase energy costs on Pennsylvanians who are already paying too much to heat their homes and keep the lights on. In addition, RGGI will cost our friends and neighbors family-sustaining energy sector jobs. Not only do these jobs help power the western Pennsylvania economy, but also, they increase production and transmission capabilities which lower energy prices.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues to get a final product that doesn’t burden the taxpayers or the Commonwealth’s economy.”
