HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives today voted 112-77 to approve its budget plan for fiscal year 2015-16. The House plan includes no new taxes, more than $400 million in new education investments and funding for essential government services. Rep. Sheryl Delozier (R-Cumberland) issued the following statement in response to the vote:
“I am proud to support a no-tax-increase budget that lives within our means and respects the taxpayers of Pennsylvania. House Bill 1192 supports and prioritizes the core functions of government without asking families for more of their hard-earned money. Our constituents spoke loud and clear on the fact that they don’t think we should be spending $5 billion more, as the governor proposed in his budget plan, and they certainly made it clear that they don’t want to be footing the bill for those proposed increases via cradle-to-the-grave tax hikes. Today’s vote was a step in the right direction, and I hope the governor considers following the House and Senate down this fiscally responsible path as final budget negotiations move forward.
“Earlier this year, I had a poll on my legislative website that asked residents of the 88th District how they would prioritize education spending in the state budget. Nearly 75 percent said K-12 education was their first priority. I am pleased to report we took that input into consideration while crafting the budget plan approved in the House today. It includes a $370 million increase in education funding.
“The House budget approved today addresses the needs of Pennsylvania, while prioritizing new investments in essential government services. It respects the view of the majority of those I’ve heard from who are tired of state government asking the taxpayers for more money. At the end of the day, Pennsylvanians expect their state government to approach budgeting in the same way working families do. We must finalize a plan based on the money we currently have, not the money we wish we had.”
