HARRISBURG – The House voted today, 112-77, in favor a $30.18 billion budget, which does not include a tax increase, Rep. Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Franklin/Fulton) said. It will now go to the Senate for consideration and is expected to go to the governor’s desk in the next several days.
“While it is certainly important that this budget does not include any tax increases, I am happy to say that it also increases funding by $200 million for education at all levels, including early childhood, basic and higher education,” Topper said. “This is a spending plan which funds Pennsylvania’s needs while spending responsibly and I was proud to vote for it.”
The budget also includes additional funding for Pennsylvanians with intellectual disabilities. This spending plan represents an increase of 3.6 percent over last year’s, well within the rate of inflation. The budget was examined line-by-line, cutting wasteful spending by $800 million. In addition, reforms to the state’s pension and liquor systems will be considered over the next few days.
“I look forward to seeing these major changes to the liquor and pension systems going to the governor’s desk for his consideration,” Topper added. “It is long past time for reform and I thank the leaders of the House and Senate for coming together to make it possible.”
