HARRISBURG – The House voted today, 112-77, in favor a $30.18 billion budget, which does not include a tax increase, Majority Leader Dave Reed (R-Indiana) said.  It will now go to the Senate for consideration and is expected to go to the governor’s desk in the next several days.

“This is a responsible budget which funds the core functions of government and includes more than $200 million in increases for early childhood education, basic education and higher education,” Reed said.  “In addition, there will be additional funding for people across Pennsylvania with intellectual disabilities.  This is a spending plan which funds our needs across the Commonwealth without increasing the burden for Pennsylvania taxpayers.”

Here is a look at funding included in the spending plan for Indiana County’s school districts:

•    Blairsville-Saltsburg School District:  $9,215,799
•    Homer-Center School District:  $5,390,300
•    Indiana Area School District:  $8,944,510
•    Marion Center Area School District:  $9,242,012
•    Penns Manor Area School District:  $7,182,952
•    Purchase Line School District:  $8,648,472
•    United School District:  $8,675,438

In addition to the budget, discussions in the General Assembly over the next several days will focus on pension reform and changes to Pennsylvania’s liquor system.  The liquor reforms, which would bring the system into the 21st century, would generate approximately $200 million.

“I look forward to working with the leaders of the Senate and House on these important reforms in the days ahead,” Reed added.  “All of these essential bills will be on the governor’s desk for his consideration before the end of the month.”
