HARRISBURG – After voting in favor of an on-time, responsible budget that doesn’t increase taxes on hard-working Pennsylvanians, Rep. Julie Harhart (R-Lehigh/Northampton) released the following statement:

“Today the Pennsylvania House of Representatives approved a $30.18 billion budget that keeps government growth to a minimum, has no new or increased taxes and provides additional funding for priorities such as education and human services.

“I am proud to support a budget that only spends what we have without taking more money out of taxpayers’ wallets. That being said, with recent increases in revenue returns and some prudent budgeting, we are able to make significant spending increases in critical areas.

“Basic education would get an increase of $100 million, Pre-K Counts would get a $25 million increase and students in need of special education will benefit from an additional $20 million.

“Those individuals most in need would also be taken care of under this budget. Home- and community-based services will see an increase of $96 million, with a program expansion to help an additional 3,756 seniors. Services for those individuals with disabilities will increase by $41 million.

“This is a responsible budget that spends within our means, just like families do all over the Commonwealth. We need to set the right example. We cannot spend money we do not have and then go to the taxpayers and ask them to pay up. I look forward to an affirmative vote from the Senate as the budget bill moves forward.”
