HARRISBURG – Calling it a win for state taxpayers, Rep. Lee James (R-Venango/Butler) today voted for the balanced, on-time state budget bill approved by the state House.
“This state budget protects taxpayers while funding the core functions of government,” James said. “The cost of government for taxpayers would not increase under this budget bill.”
The House-approved budget bill would allocate $30 billion to fund state government programs and services.
The state fiscal year ends at midnight on Tuesday, June 30. By approving the bill, the House is working to ensure the state has a new budget in place when the new fiscal year begins on Wednesday, July 1.
When he took office, Gov. Tom Wolf promised a “government that works.” James said he hopes the governor lives up to that promise.
“A government that works requires a budget that’s signed,” said James. “If the governor vetoes the budget, he could significantly affect the state government’s ability to operate. I hope he does not turn our Commonwealth into Washington, D.C., where gridlock rules and budgeting is driven by partisan fighting.”
The state budget bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
