HARRISBURG – Rep. Jill Cooper (R-Westmoreland) announced today she’s been appointed to the House Local Government Committee.

The Local Government Committee reviews bills that would amend the municipal codes by which local governments operate. This could include legislation related to local government purchases, real estate assessment policies and statewide pensions for municipal police officers.

“Our municipal governments have some of the most direct impacts on the people of Pennsylvania,” Cooper said. “The work they do is incredibly important in the day-to-day lives of their residents. I’m excited to get to work to make sure the state level can continue providing the support our local governments need and deserve.”

Pennsylvania has more than 2,500 local government units of all sizes. The committee also works closely with the Local Government Commission, a bipartisan legislative service agency that provides research assistance on issues pertaining to local governments.
