HARRISBURG – Rep. Bryan Cutler (R-Peach Bottom) released a statement today regarding the passage of
House Bill 1500, which would reform cyber charter school funding and standards.
“When the House Education Committee held our first hearing on cyber charter in Lancaster County in April, I was hopeful that we would use the information we received from that hearing and the two that followed to craft a bipartisan bill to reform cyber charter school in Pennsylvania.
“I was extremely disappointed to see that was not the case when House Bill 1500 was introduced just last Friday. Instead of using the information that was given to us, House Democrats have pushed through a rushed piece of legislation that would likely shut down cyber charter schools and put the 65,000 students in Pennsylvania who are currently enrolled in cyber charter schools back into situations that did not work for them.
“With House Bill 1500 now headed to the Senate, I encourage my colleagues in the other chamber to make the necessary drastic changes to this legislation so actual bipartisan cyber charter reform can be crafted. I am willing to work towards a real solution on cyber charter reform, but House Bill 1500 is not that solution.”
