HARRISBURG – Rep. Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union) issued the following statement as July 1 has arrived without a new state budget in place.

“It is disappointing to me that we were not able to come to an agreement on a state budget on time.

“Having run a successful business for more than three decades, I know the importance of getting a balanced budget done on time.

“Failing to pass a budget on time means the people who elected us face uncertainty as we continue with negotiations.

“As long as this budget impasse goes on, I will be withholding my paycheck. It is only fair that if the people we represent are left waiting, lawmakers should not be paid either.

“I am also a co-sponsor of House Bill 1682 that would suspend pay for members of the General Assembly and the governor during a budget impasse. In fact, in 2023, I was the sole member of the House to withhold my paycheck until December during a months-long impasse.

“I was cautiously optimistic when the budget was proposed in February that we would come to an agreement that spent our dollars wisely and effectively. However, here we stand on July 1 and there is still no budget.

“As we continue budget negotiations, I will be fighting for a budget that helps to grow our economy, unleashes Pennsylvania energy and keeps state government spending in check.”
