HARRISBURG — Republican lawmakers from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia will convene on Tuesday, Oct. 28, in the Pennsylvania State Capitol for the first in a series of joint hearings focused on restoring energy affordability and reliability across the Mid-Atlantic region.
“Families and businesses across our region are being crushed by skyrocketing utility bills and policies that put political agendas ahead of common sense,” said Rep. David H. Rowe (PA-Snyder/Union/Mifflin/Juniata), chairman of the PA House Republican Policy Committee. “Because our states share the same grid and transmission lines, we share the same crisis. If we don’t act now, families will face rolling blackouts, industries will leave, and the backbone of our regional economy will begin to crack under the weight of bad policy.”
The hearing, titled “Powering the Mid-Atlantic: Restoring Energy Affordability and Reliability,” will examine how divergent state energy policies are perpetuating an energy crisis, negatively affecting families and businesses across the region. Lawmakers and invited experts will discuss the economic and grid-reliability consequences of rising energy mandates and taxes, aging infrastructure, and market disruptions, while identifying practical steps to strengthen the shared PJM power network.
The event marks the launch of a multi-state series that will continue with follow-up hearings in New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia in the coming months.
The hearing will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 9–10:30 a.m. in the Ryan Office Building Library, Capitol Complex, Harrisburg, PA.
A press conference will be held at 10:45 a.m., or immediately following the policy hearing, in the Capitol Media Center, Room 1, East Wing, State Capitol, Harrisburg.
Both events will be livestreamed on policycommittee.com and pahousegop.com.
