HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Cambria/Somerset) is seeing his list of legislative duties grow with today’s appointment to the powerful House Appropriations Committee by Republican Chairman Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana).

“I already have a great working relationship with Chairman Struzzi, who is my legislative ‘neighbor,’ and I’m honored that he would consider me for this position,” Rigby said. “I’m looking forward to playing a key role in the state budget process and the manner in which we as legislators carefully consider and determine the most efficient use of taxpayer dollars.”

“I am thrilled to have Rep. Rigby serve on the Appropriations Committee for the remainder of this session,” Struzzi said. “His experience in law enforcement and small business will be invaluable for the committee as we navigate next year’s budget.”

The House Appropriations Committee is the largest and most active standing committee in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. The committee is primarily responsible for reviewing the governor’s budget proposal, holding budget hearings, negotiating a final budget, and reviewing other budgetary documents in preparation of the budget and during the fiscal year once the budget is enacted.

“In this capacity, I now serve as a voice for not only my district, but for all Pennsylvanians,” added Rigby. “I’m looking forward to the challenge and additional responsibilities.”

The committee also evaluates legislative proposals for fiscal implications prior to voting a bill out of committee. It also plays a pivotal role in forming recommendations for budget and fiscal-related matters and is integrally involved in the annual budget process.

Rigby will continue to serve on the Communications and Technology, Judiciary and Liquor Control committees.
