Wallen Comments on the 2026-27 Budget
July 12, 2026
HARRISBURG – Rep. Catherine Wallen (R-Adams/Cumberland) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives approved the 2026-27 state budget:
“Republicans in the House and Senate successfully pushed back against the governor’s original $53.26 billion proposal, bringing the budget I voted for down to $50.85 billion. That represents a significant reduction from the initial request and spending in the House Democrats’ budget. It also keeps spending growth closer to the increased costs the Commonwealth is already facing.
“I am encouraged that we protected the Rainy Day Fund and avoided broad-based tax increases. I’m also pleased the budget preserves the Educational Improvement Tax Credit and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit programs without reducing funding or making programmatic changes. These scholarships continue to expand educational opportunities for students and families across the Commonwealth. Also included in the budget is $775 million for shovel-ready rapid deployment rural road and bridge projects.
“While this budget is an improvement over where negotiations began, we must continue working toward budgets that live within our means and put Pennsylvania on a sustainable fiscal path.”
