HARRISBURG – An order issued by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) requiring a deduction or monthly credit on customer bills for 17 natural gas, electric, water and wastewater utilities amounting to $320 million per year is being hailed by Rep. Matthew Dowling (R-Fayette-Somerset) as a win for consumers.
“I was a co-signer of
a letter to the PUC urging this action, and am pleased that the PUC has issued this order, by a unanimous vote, to return funds to consumers as a result of changes in tax rates by the federal government,” said Dowling. “An intensive assessment into the federal tax reforms that have been enacted was conducted and, in some cases, is still ongoing with several utility companies. It is good to see customers get a ‘win’.”
Depending on the revenue and tax impact on each utility, the distribution charges on monthly consumer bills are expected to decrease to up to 8.55 percent due to the federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Credit Act of 2017.
Dowling says this not only helps consumers, but businesses as well.
“This is another way we can help our residents and assist in reducing the cost of doing business in the Commonwealth,” he said.
