HARRISBURG – This week, Rep. Jerry Knowles (R-Berks/Carbon/Schuylkill) announced his House committee assignments for the 2015-16 legislative session.
During Knowles’ fourth term serving the people of the 124th District, he will serve as a member of the following committees: Finance, State Government, Gaming Oversight and Professional Licensure.
• The Finance Committee oversees matters relating to taxation and fiscal policy, investment of the Commonwealth’s money and regulations of the Department of Revenue.
• The State Government Committee deals with bills related to government reform and election processes.
• The Gaming Oversight Committee is one of the newer House standing committees, having been created in late 2006 to oversee the implementation of slot machine gaming in Pennsylvania, as well as the state’s bingo, small games of chance and amusement laws.
• The Professional Licensure Committee covers the professional and occupational licensing boards located administratively in the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs (BPOA) in the Department of State.
“I am very pleased with my committee assignments for this session, all of which will be dealing with important policy issues,” Knowles said. “As a member of the Finance Committee, I plan to continue to work on a measure that will eliminate the school property tax. Additionally, I am one of four main co-sponsors of the paycheck protection legislation that would no longer allow political campaign funds and dues to be automatically collected by state and local governments in Pennsylvania.”
