HARRISBURG – Rep. Mauree Gingrich (R-Lebanon) was sworn into office this week to begin her seventh term representing the citizens of the 101st Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Citing her strong leadership, experience and interest in economic and business development, Gingrich was selected by House leaders to serve as chairman of the Labor and Industry Committee for the 2015-16 legislative session.

“It is a tremendous honor to have been selected to lead this important committee,” said Gingrich. “The Labor and Industry Committee addresses legislation that helps shape Pennsylvania’s business climate and laws governing Pennsylvania’s work force. As one who recognizes the need to attract businesses to the Commonwealth that will bring family-sustaining jobs, I look forward with enthusiasm to the challenges ahead and the opportunity to make a positive difference in our state’s economy and the lives of Pennsylvania citizens.”

A recipient of numerous awards, including the National Federation of Independent Business’s Guardian of Small Business Award, Gingrich served four terms on the House Appropriations Committee, and as chairman of the House Gaming Oversight Committee for the 2013-14 legislative session. She has held several leadership positions throughout her career in both the public and private sector, and has been a strong advocate for the advancement of women and protection of children and the elderly.

A former business owner and past president of Palmyra Borough Council, Gingrich’s extensive government experience was instrumental in the recent re-writing of the Pennsylvania Borough and Township codes. As chairman of the Appropriations Committee’s Welfare Reform Policy Development Team, Gingrich authored a key amendment to the Welfare Code that resulted in much-needed and long-awaited reform of the state’s welfare system.

In the 2015-16 legislative session, Gingrich’s leadership skills will be put to good use when the Labor and Industry Committee is expected to address workers’ compensation and unemployment compensation reforms and other key legislation to improve Pennsylvania’s business and jobs climate.
