CONNEAUT LAKE – In response to the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s decision to exempt most senior lifetime resident hunting license holders from having to obtain a permit to hunt pheasants, Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Crawford/Erie/Lawrence/Mercer) issued the following statement:
“I am glad to see the state Game Commission agreed with the House of Representatives and reversed its decision to require holders of senior lifetime hunting licenses to buy permits in order to hunt pheasants.
“With unanimous support, the House recently passed my legislation,
House Bill 1409, which included an amendment to exempt senior lifetime resident hunting license holders from obtaining a permit to hunt pheasants. The amendment by Majority Whip Rep. Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) was in response to the Game Commission’s choice to impose a regulation requiring all hunters, including those with a senior lifetime resident hunting license, to get a permit to hunt pheasants.”
Under the Game Commission’s decision to reverse the regulation, those who obtained a senior lifetime hunting license prior to May 13, 2017, will not need to purchase a pheasant permit to hunt pheasants in the 2018-19 license year. Adult pheasant hunters still will need to purchase the $26.90 permit and junior pheasant hunters will need to obtain a free permit in 2018-19.
