HARRISBURG—Rep. Thomas Murt (R-Montgomery/Philadelphia) has co-sponsored legislation to help Pennsylvania transition to 100 percent renewable energy by 2050.
“The goal of this is to decrease greenhouse gases and, in relation, reduce the levels of air, water and land pollution in the Commonwealth,” Murt said.
House Bill 2132 would establish a Clean Energy Transition Task Force, a Clean Energy Center of Excellence, and a Council for Clean Energy Workforce Development to evaluate current pollution-related issues affecting the Commonwealth and its residents while also working toward maximizing the environmental and economic benefits of developing Pennsylvania’s renewable energy industry.
Clean Energy Center of Excellence would be established at an institution within the State System of Higher Education to conduct and sponsor research on renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.
The Clean Energy Transition Task Force would work toward the goal of using renewable energy throughout State government operations.
The Council for Clean Energy Workforce Development would identify the employment potential of the energy efficiency and renewable energy industry and the skills and training needed for workers in those fields.
“The goal of moving to 100 percent renewable energy will fuel job growth that will place Pennsylvania at the forefront of cutting-edge technological industries,” Murt said.
