HARRISBURG – The governor today issued his budget address for the 2019-20 fiscal year to the Pennsylvania General Assembly. The governor’s proposed $34.15 billion spending plan includes no new broad-based tax hikes.
Rep. Greg Rothman (R-Cumberland) issued the following statement after the governor presented his budget proposal for the 2019-20 fiscal year to a joint session of the General Assembly today:
“As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I am looking forward to the budget process. Not raising taxes is a good start, but we need to look at our excessive spending to ensure prosperity for Pennsylvania’s future.”
The Appropriations Committee has a meeting this afternoon and tomorrow, Feb. 6, during session. The committee will also convene next week on Feb. 11, Feb. 12, Feb. 13 and Feb. 14.
The House Appropriations Committee is the primary committee of the General Assembly tasked with overseeing state government spending, state fiscal policies and developing a state budget each fiscal year. It will conduct hearings often in the coming weeks to delve into budget negotiations and to hear input from government agencies and the private sector.
