HARRISBURG – Rep. Tedd Nesbit (R-Butler/Mercer) said today that he was optimistic with the governor’s 2019-20 state budget proposal.
“After hearing the governor’s address, I am optimistic about this year’s budget process,” said Nesbit. “There were a few things that I disagreed with, and I am looking forward to reviewing the language, but overall, I thought the tone was positive. As a strong fiscal conservative, I was happy to hear that this proposal does not call for any new or increased taxes.”
Gov. Tom Wolf is proposing a $34.15 billion budget for the 2019-20 year, an increase of $927 million from last year’s budget proposal, but with no taxes. The governor spoke broadly about his goals for the upcoming fiscal year and highlighted issues such as job creation, workforce development and education funding.
“I am ready and willing to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle toward a balanced budget that will first and foremost protect and stand up for hard-working taxpayers,” Nesbit added. “We also need to ensure that we are controlling state spending, while still providing the services that people expect and deserve from their government, such as taking care of roads, education funding and caring for the elderly.”
