HARRISBURG – Following Gov. Tom Wolf’s budget address delivered today to a joint session of the state House and Senate, state Rep. Jim Cox (R-Berks/Lancaster) – who recently began serving as chairman of the House Labor and Industry Committee – issued the following statement:
“I’m pleased the governor wants to focus on workforce development initiatives to help Pennsylvania workers find and obtain better-paying jobs. We need to establish programs and policies that empower Pennsylvanians to learn more so they can earn more. Many workers who are living paycheck to paycheck could benefit from new training so they can obtain a better-paying job.
The Governor’s focus on workforce development today is much more encouraging than his call last week to hike the minimum wage to $15 per hour. While I think there are some areas where we can work together on this year’s budget, I’m happy to see that he now seems to realize that back-breaking tax increases aren’t the answer to everything.”
