HARRISBURG – Rep. Natalie Mihalek (R-Allegheny/Washington) today said she was optimistic about the governor’s budget proposal.

“I am very optimistic about this budget proposal,” said Mihalek. “Although I did not agree with everything, I am hopeful that we can work together to pass a balanced budget that will propel our state’s economy forward.”

In his address today, Gov. Tom Wolf outlined his budget plan for the 2019-20 fiscal year. He is proposing a $34.15 billion budget, with an increase of $927 million from last year’s proposal, or a 2.8 percent increase. However, this year’s proposal does not include any new or increased taxes. The governor spoke broadly about his goals for the upcoming fiscal year and emphasized working on issues such as job creation, workforce development and education funding.

“I was encouraged about the governor’s view of workforce development,” added Mihalek. “This is something I believe we can all get behind in order to bring in new jobs and create a more vibrant and competitive business climate in Pennsylvania. I am eager to be in budget discussions next week and learn more about the language and work toward a balanced budget that will stand up for hard-working taxpayers.”
