HARRISBURG – Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Hempfield) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s $34.15 billion budget proposal:
“While I am pleasantly surprised that the governor talked about limited government and individual responsibility, his plan is still an almost $1 billion increase in spending over the current state budget. This is an actual growth rate of approximately 4.2 percent, which is double the consumer price index. We also are facing almost $500 million in overspending from the current approved budget.
“Another area of concern of mine is the shifting of $100 million offline into accounts separate from the General Fund budget. At a time when offline special funds have been recognized to exist, we should be shifting money into the light. We should not be moving $100 million offline where there is no accountability.
“While these details are concerning, I was pleased to hear him talk about workforce development and education. I hope our employers and trades are invited to participate in any incentive programs offered to help bridge the divide between jobs and the available workforce.”
