HARRISBURG – Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) today ordered a special election for Primary Election Day, May 21, to fill the vacant seat in the 11th Legislative District in Butler County.

Turzai filed the writ of election, the formal document setting the date of a special election, with the Department of State. A copy of the writ is also being filed with the Butler County Board of Elections.

The vacancy was created by the resignation of Rep. Brian Ellis (R-Butler).

Candidates for the office will be selected by a process designated by their respective political parties, and the winner of the special election will take office after the results are certified.

The district office will remain open, under supervision of the House, to assist constituents with issues or problems and to continue constituent inquiries already in progress. The office will remain open until a new representative takes office and decides how to manage the district.

The 11th District office is located at 6 Chesapeake St., Suite 200, Lyndora. Staff can be reached by phone at 724-283-5852. The office is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Monthly veterans assistance hours will continue at the office on the second Friday of every month, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Veterans and their families can call the office at 724-283-5852 to schedule an appointment with Larry Tuttle, department service officer with the American Legion. Tuttle assists veterans with compensation, pension, death benefits, education, health care issues and more. Veterans do not have to be a member of the American Legion to receive these services.
