HARRISBURG – House Bill 692, legislation authored by state Rep. Keith Gillespie (R-Hellam) that would re-name the Lewisberry Road bridge over Conewago Creek as the Gary L. Crone Memorial Bridge now sits with the state Senate following unanimous passage by the state House.

“Staff Sergeant Crone served admirably and was spoken of highly by his fellow soldiers in Special Forces,” Gillespie said. “This is just another way to remember a great man and fellow York countian.”

Staff Sergeant Gary Crone, a former resident of Zions View, died at the age of 20 while serving our country near Khe Sanh, Vietnam, on Jan. 29, 1968.

While on patrol as part of the 5th Special Forces Group, Crone was killed in an enemy ambush, one day before he was due to leave Vietnam.

Crone did two tours in Vietnam, and was awarded two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star and the Silver Star.

Questions about this or any legislative issue should be addressed to Gillespie’s district office at (717-840-4711.
