HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne) outlined his budget priorities for the 2018-19 fiscal year following the governor’s budget address before a joint session of the General Assembly on Tuesday. Kaufer’s statement is as follows:
“When it comes to establishing our state budget, I believe we need to continue to re-evaluate our priorities and consider policies that will enhance the lives of residents of the 120th District and beyond. The people expect good governance and support for core and essential social and health services throughout the budget process. The No. 1 issue people approach me about is the high cost of property taxes and the burdens they impose on their lives. I am disappointed that the governor did not include property tax reform in his budget outline.
“Earlier this year, I joined with several of my House colleagues to announce a plan to reform our state’s bloated welfare system. The package of bills would give more families in our state an opportunity to improve their quality of life, while tackling the issues of waste, fraud and abuse from within the current system. We want to encourage those who can work to get a job, and help them to get off the welfare rolls. These things would help save money and improve our state’s financial status. Now is the time to end the cycle of poverty through job growth.”
