HARRISBURG – Rep. Matt Dowling (R-Fayette/Somerset) announced that on Tuesday, Sept. 25, the House unanimously passed his
House Resolution 1067, which recognizes October 2018 as “Blindness Awareness Month.”
“Pennsylvania is fortunate to have a number of nonprofit organizations dedicated to advocating for Pennsylvanians who need special help. For more than 100 years, the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind has been dedicated to helping Pennsylvanians prevent, prepare for and manage vision loss,” said Dowling. “By declaring October ‘Blindness Awareness Month’ in Pennsylvania, we congratulate the association for its valuable service to help the visually impaired live strong, independent lives and that makes our Commonwealth stronger.”
The Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services (BBVS), which operates through the Department of Labor and Industry, is available to assist Pennsylvanians who are blind or visually impaired gain the skills necessary to live and work independently in their communities. BBVS assists in finding employment, setting up a business, develop independent living skills and specializes in children services.
