HARRISBURG – The House today approved legislation authored by Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) that would level the playing field for private clubs that sell six-packs.
Current law does not allow clubs to sell malt or brewed beverages to customers for consumption off the licensed premises. Establishments with a retail liquor license can offer this choice.
“Our private clubs play an important role in our communities,” O’Neal said. “While selling alcohol is a secondary purpose of these organizations, many members would enjoy the option of taking beverages home. Preventing clubs from offering six-packs to go is an inconvenience.”
House Bill 763 would allow a member of the club to purchase a six-pack of malt or brewed beverages to consume off-site.
The bill now goes to the Senate for its consideration.
The 48th Legislative District in Washington County includes the city of Washington; Chartiers, North Franklin, North Strabane and South Strabane townships; and Canonsburg, East Washington and Houston boroughs.
