HARRISBURG – Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne) joined some of her House colleagues at a Capitol news conference this week to unveil the “Energize PA” bill package, which is designed to put more Pennsylvania residents to work without imposing new fees or taxes.
Toohil is the prime sponsor of one of the eight bills included in the initiative. House Bill 1104 would require the Department of Community and Economic Development to establish a registry for abandoned manufacturing sites, listing the contact information of the property’s owner and its current condition.
“Many of these sites are brownfields – abandoned properties where redevelopment can be complicated because of ground contamination. But these unused and forgotten sites from the past have great potential as major contributors to Pennsylvania’s economic future,” said Toohil. “We want to dust the rust off our part of the Rust Belt, and say, ‘Welcome to Pennsylvania, we’re open for business.’”
Toohil added that creating more family-sustaining jobs, like those in the natural gas industry and its spinoff businesses, will result in less reliance on government programs.
House Bill 1104 has been referred to the House Commerce Committee for consideration.
