| House leader says Legislature will continue efforts to stop local gun control |
HARRISBURG – House Majority Leader Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) issued the following statement regarding efforts by some communities to enact their own gun control ordinances:
“Pennsylvania state law makes it very clear that local municipalities cannot pass and enforce their own local gun laws or ordinances. In 2014 the legislature passed a law to strengthen these protections to ensure the rights of responsible gun owners are fair and equal across the Commonwealth. Our state courts have shown consistent support for upholding state law on this matter. However, if the courts show a wavering in that position, the Legislature always has the authority and may use all of its powers to uphold the law, just as we did in Lancaster County in removing a judge and a sheriff. If needed, we will take action on those who willfully and openly violate the rights enshrined in our Constitution.”
