HARRISBURG—Rep. Todd Stephens (R-Montgomery) joined a bipartisan majority of his colleagues to pass a budget-related gaming bill that provides additional funding for lottery programs for Pennsylvania seniors and for programs serving domestic violence victims and abused children in Montgomery County.
The bill expands and modernizes lottery and gaming provisions in Pennsylvania law in addition to redirecting casino tax revenues.
“Unlike other counties in Pennsylvania, Montgomery County did not receive a ‘Local Share’ of the taxes paid on revenue generated by the Valley Forge Casino,” Stephens said. “Instead, those revenues flowed to a Harrisburg grant program. I have been fighting to redirect that funding to Montgomery County.”
Estimates indicate the bill will redirect more than $1 million to support Montgomery County parks and trails; Mission Kids, Montgomery County’s child advocacy center; and Laurel House, Montgomery County’s domestic violence shelter.
“As a former Montgomery County prosecutor handling child abuse and domestic violence cases I saw firsthand the work these organizations do to serve Montgomery County residents who need their services. I am proud we were able to secure this important funding stream for them,” Stephens said.
