HARRISBURG –Speaker of the Pennsylvania House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) issued the following statement regarding the passage of funding for state-related universities:

“With large bipartisan votes, the General Assembly appropriated tax dollars to Pitt, Penn State, Temple, Lincoln, and the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School in the amount of almost $600 million today. These monies need to be used to help lower tuition for Pennsylvania students attending these universities. These schools received almost 8 percent increases in funding from 2014-15 up to and through the 2016-17 budget. We are hoping that these state-related universities make a commitment to not increase tuition and room and board for our Pennsylvania students attending these institutions for the 2018-19 school year now that state tax dollars have been appropriated.  These appropriations should be focused on making higher education more affordable for Pennsylvania students.”
