HARRISBURG - State Rep. Lee James (R-Venango/Butler) today issued the following statement after voting for a revenue enhancement bill approved by the House that is expected to eliminate the state budget deficit:
“We approved a bill that would balance the budget without further burdening taxpayers with broad-based tax increases. My colleagues and I for months have been arguing that we can fund the core functions of state government and close the deficit without raising the state sales tax, income tax or other taxes paid by hard-working Pennsylvanians.
“This bill is a bipartisan agreement that meets the governor’s goal of increased spending while incorporating the Republican legislators’ demand to find new revenues without raising taxes. We were able to push back against the governor’s continued calls for tax increases during the past several months and Pennsylvania taxpayers will have more money left in their wallets and pocketbooks as a result.”
