HARRISBURG — Unused facilities owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania would be evaluated for potential reuse as addiction treatment centers under an initiative spearheaded by Rep. Jim Gregory (R-Blair).

House Resolution 147, which calls for the Joint State Government Commission to conduct a comprehensive review of unused properties and how to repurpose them for addiction treatment and recovery support.
The House unanimously passed the resolution Wednesday.
“In discussions across the Commonwealth, we have heard time and time again there is a lack of available space to provide access to rehab treatment. Repurposing these buildings is one all-hands-on-deck solution to a complex problem,” Gregory said.
Gregory envisions having centers that provide a continuum of care from initial detox and treatment all the way to sober community centers for people in recovery.
Gregory thanked the Joint State Government Commission for its cooperation on the review. The resolution calls for the commission to furnish a report within a year.
