HARRISBURG – The state House of Representatives this week unanimously passed legislation to honor the life of Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Landon Weaver, who was killed in the line of duty late last year, announced Reps. Judy Ward (R-Blair) and Rich Irvin (R-Huntingdon/Centre/Mifflin), co-sponsors of the bill.
Weaver of Troop G, Huntingdon Barracks, was tragically killed in the line of duty on Dec. 30, 2016, in Juniata Township, Huntingdon County, while investigating a protection from abuse order.
“The loss of Trooper Weaver is a loss to us all,” said Ward. “He was a young man dedicated to serving this state with the utmost integrity. Trooper Weaver tragically lost his life while in service to the Commonwealth and the state, in turn, wishes to honor him in this small way.”
House Bill 1608 would designate the bridge carrying U.S. Route 22 over the Juniata River, Norfolk Southern Corporation rail tracks and State Route 1010 (Penn Street) in Huntingdon County, as the Trooper Landon E. Weaver Memorial Bridge.
“Trooper Weaver worked in Huntingdon County, so it was only appropriate to choose an area bridge to name in his memory,” said Irvin. “Every time a motorist is driving over the bridge, he or she will see the plaque and be reminded of Trooper Weaver and all the men and women in blue who have lost their lives in service to their communities.”
Weaver grew up in rural Blair County and graduated in 2012 from Central High School in Martinsburg. He was inducted into the State Police Academy in 2015 and married his wife, Macy, in June 2016.
House Bill 1608 now goes to the state Senate for consideration.
