HARRISBURG – Rep. Jerry Knowles (R-Berks/Carbon/Schuylkill) joined the majority of his House colleagues in supporting a state budget revenue package on Wednesday evening. A fiscally responsible proposal, dubbed the “Putting People First” plan, includes revenues to fund the governor’s $1.5 billion deficit from 2016-17, as well as the anticipated revenues needed for the current budget of approximately $600 million. Knowles made the following statement:
“In all my years in Harrisburg, I have never seen or experienced so much scrutiny in a budget process for simply trying to do the right and responsible thing. This plan does not raise taxes or borrow one single dollar. It would make no sense to raise people’s taxes when we are sitting on billions in various slush funds, of which the governor can use however he pleases. If I have to pick between special interests and the taxpayer, I always pick the taxpayer.”
